Central Florida is home to multiple tourists attractions. With nearly 72 million tourist visiting the greater Orlando area in 2017, central Florida is one of the most visited areas of the country year in and year out. But if you are looking to see what Orlando has to offer outside of all of the theme parks and water parks, you might want to check out Blue Spring State Park for some down to Earth fun, rest, and relaxation. Located 45 minutes north of downtown Orlando, Blue Springs State Park will get you out of the long attraction lines and into Florida’s greatest natural attraction, WATER!
What is Blue Springs State Park?
Blue Springs State Park covers more than 2,600 acres including the largest spring on the St. Johns River. Blue Springs is actually an official Manatee sanctuary and the winter home to an ever-growing population of West Indian Manatees. If you are in the area from Mid-November through March over 100 different “sea cows” can be viewed from the spring’s overlooks (especially on cold days).
If you are planning on hitting the spring during the summer or spring seasons you are in for a treat. The water keeps at a constant 72 degrees, which makes it a quite refreshing break from the Florida heat, especially during the summer months.
What does the Park Offer?
There are two separate entries to the spring. One is a general area for swimming and floating (floats are available for rent or you can bring your own). The other entry point is closer to the head of the springs where you can actually swim above or dive into the “crack in the earth” which will lead you into the Florida aquifers. Most days you will actually see scuba divers swimming into the spring head quite frequently.
If you are looking for adventure or just something different on your trip to central Florida, visit Blue Springs State Park. It will get you away from the crowds, while providing the entire family a great time of fun and relaxation. Ditch the parks one day. You will not be disappointed!
